Eri Sawatzky

Eri Sawatzky is a multidisciplinary, fiber, artist, originally from the Fraser Valley but has been making art and living on Vancouver Island for 10 years. Using the abstraction of texture and composition, they tend to existential questions through tactile meaning making. Completely self taught, their work has branched over many mediums and forms. They’ve been showing their work in galleries and online. Their practice is grounded in the intentional processing of lived experiences with a particular inspiration coming from their death, work and hospice. They are currently exploring new directions in grief, ritual, somatic, storytelling, and interactive artworks.

Statement

My name is Eri Sawatzky and I am a multidisciplinary artist from Sooke, BC Canada. My work consists of fibre arts, murals, paintings, and sculptures with a multi-medium twist. Working without limitations is what evolves my work and passions, and also attracts viewers of my work. I have dedicated several years to finding expression through the arts, and in that time, collaborated and commissioned for dozens. For me, the act of creating began simply as a means of release but has evolved into a limitless desire to express my own obsession with the dream state, skepticism of “reality”, and wonder of the infinite.
