Usher draws from a visceral experience during a heady management retreat long ago. My attention drifted – literally – out the window into the surrounding forest. I felt my arms stretching and interweaving within the trees, held in their quiet strength. I moved between line and form using neutral, layered opacities and translucencies. A limited palette helped me stay tuned to instinct, tracing both studied and imagined life forces.
